I read the most amazing quote this morning at Mary's blog and thought I'd direct you to it because it is so poignant. So please go to Maiden, Mother and CRONE and enjoy. And then come back here and tell me, what you look forward to when You are "old" or what is the best part about getting "older".
Not long ago, Shelley my daughter and I were having a discussion about menapausal symptoms and how they are not a lot of fun. I suggested that because she was having some symptoms that she might try wild yam etc, etc. I said after all honey you are getting older. She being upset by that prospect yelled at me and said Hey, lady do I call you elderly????????? LMAO
Age has never "bothered me" but until recently I also never really considered being "old". It's got it's perks and creaks too.

Here is the comment I left: "When I was very young--9 or 10--my grandmother and I used to walk a couple of miles in the middle of the night to the river, bathed until the sun came out. Then, for breakfast, she would let me eat fruit and boiled eggs until I made myself sick, "Because it makes you laugh so pretty," she used to say. I would eat 7 eggs because it made HER laugh so pretty. She used to cackle and refuse to cover the hollow scar left behind by her missing eye. She laughed until birds took flight and I fell to the floor in teary laughter. She was old. Perfect. And when I get there, I will be just like her."
ReplyDeleteThanks Oma Linda, this brought the sun (and maybe a bit of happy rain) into my eyes. You lovely, wise and beloved Crone of mine ;-)
I'm constantly redefining what age and aging are to me. You and other great women of the blogsphere really inspire me and help me to embrace the "Crone" Linda.
ReplyDeleteold is always for people older than me.
ReplyDeleteBoth posts are lovely and wonderfully affirmative regarding aging. I cherish everyone of my silver hairs as they add to my salt and pepper. I fully embrace elastic waist pants and think the person who invented adding stretch to every known clothing fabric should be sainted! HoneyMan and I were driving through town the other day and saw a whole group of ladies in their beautiful purple frocks with awesome, extravagant red hats on their way to a lunch and we smiled our biggest smiles in celebration of the mature woman.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day.
Always, Queenie
I tell you, I'm looking forward to being too old to go into work where I can potter and sew all day, I swear a rich man is meant to come along and support me doing this now... ;o)
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to being old when I can say whatever comes to mind, and I'll probably wear my underwear on my head. Why Not?
ReplyDeleteI have always looked up to a woman named Tasha Tudor. She embraced every stage of her life all the way until her death at 91. She lived as they did in the 1800's, which is a dream of mine and has been for a long time, and she was self sufficient and loved her life, the ups and the downs. She was a children's illustrator. She said that aging was an amazing journey and she was not afraid of being old and rather enjoyed it. She also was not afraid of death and believed she could come back in the life she chose fit to come back in, time and place not being a problem. I really love that way of thinking. It is something that is comforting and seems very correct, to me.
ReplyDeleteMy body has gotten older but my spirit has gotten younger too. There was a time when I wouldn't leave the house without mascara but now that my eyelashes are too thin to even see them I find I nolonger care about such silly things. Getting old is liberating. The freedom that comes with acceptance of self, flaws and all is worth all of the aches and stiff joints. Not only that, I can potter and sew all day. :o) Thank you for telling us about this wonderful post. S&S
ReplyDeleteWhat I most look forward to about getting "old" is letting my hair grow into grey, keeping it long and curly and being the wild sassy old lady down the street!
ReplyDeleteHey Chicky, I know I posted a comment on this one because I love what the quote was on Mary's blog. Hmmmm...is Mr. Blogger not liking me??
